A judge has rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s request to throw out his hush money case, even though the Supreme Court recently ruled on presidential immunity.
Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan’s decision makes it harder for Trump as he gets ready to take office, though his lawyers are trying other ways to get the case dismissed.
Prosecutors say the case should continue no matter what. In May, a jury found Trump guilty of 34 charges of falsifying business records linked Q to a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016, which he denies. The Supreme Court said that former presidents can’t be charged for things they did while in office, but this doesn’t apply to personal actions.
