Indian Government Suggests New Rules for Protecting Personal Information Online

The government has shared a draft of the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, which does not include punishments for breaking the rules. People can share their thoughts on the draft until February 18. The draft is meant to let people know about the rules and is based on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. It explains rules about getting permission, handling data, and how the authorities will work. The final decision on the rules will be made after February 18, 2025.
