China has revealed plans to construct a massive hydropower dam costing $137 billion, which will be the largest of its kind in the world.

China has given the green light to build the world’s biggest hydropower dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River.

This has sparked worries about people being forced to move from their homes in Tibet and the potential harm to the environment in India and Bangladesh.

The dam is said to produce three times more energy than the Three Gorges Dam. Chinese state media says the project focuses on protecting the environment, helping local communities grow, and supporting efforts to fight climate change.

But human rights groups and experts are concerned about the wider effects of the project.
