India has Banned WhatsApp from sharing user data for five years.

India has taken strong action against WhatsApp and its parent company, Meta, by stopping the messaging app from sharing user data for five years. Along with this, Meta has been fined β‚Ή213.14 crore (about $26 million) for unfair business practices.

These penalties were given by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), which found issues with WhatsApp’s 2021 Privacy Policy. The 2021 update to the Privacy Policy required users to provide their personal data to Meta to keep using the service.

This change sparked significant worries about user privacy and data protection. The Indian government’s decision to stop WhatsApp from sharing user data is meant to safeguard citizens’ privacy rights and give users more control over their personal information.
