Iran has now allowed Google Play and WhatsApp to be used again.

Iranian officials have removed limits on WhatsApp and Google Play, showing they want to reduce how much they control the internet, according to news from the country.

This change happened after a talk with President Masoud Pezeshkian, who thinks internet rules should be less strict. Sattar Hashemi, who works with information and communication, said this is just the beginning, but it’s not clear when these changes will happen.

There are still worries about how this might affect the economy and safety, and some people want to keep following Islamic rules and Iranian laws.

Because of these limits, many Iranians use special tools called VPNs to get onto websites like Facebook, X, and YouTube, which they haven’t been able to use since 2009.

The rules for Instagram and WhatsApp became stricter after protests happened when Mahsa Amini died in September 2022. These protests led to many people getting hurt or arrested.
