Poland’s deputy foreign minister said that the country will follow International Criminal Court (ICC) orders to arrest Israeli leaders, like Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, if they come to Poland.
The ICC gave orders to arrest Netanyahu and a former defense minister in November because of actions in Gaza that were seen as war crimes. Since Poland follows the rules of the ICC, it must arrest them if they come to the country.
There are reports that Netanyahu might not go to the Auschwitz event next month because he is afraid of being arrested.
The Israeli government has not talked to Polish officials about this. The deputy foreign minister said it’s important for Poland to follow the ICC rules, and some people in Poland want other leaders, like Vladimir Putin, to also held responsible.
The Israeli president also not expected i attend the event, so the Education Minister will be the only Israeli representative there. The event on January 27 will remember the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
