
Semaphore news says that the new Trump administration might officially recognize Somaliland, which could make things difficult for the US when dealing with the African Union.
The African Union wants to protect its military and shipping interests in the area. Somaliland, which separated from Somalia 1991, has been managing itself for almost 30 years but hasn’t been recognized by other countries.
Its important location has helped it form stronger connections with countries like Ethiopia and the UAE, which have made deals with Somaliland for ports.
