President Putin officially signs law banning migrant children who don’t speak Russian from schools.

After the Russian State Duma passed a law preventing migrant children who don’t speak Russian from attending schools, Natalia Zviagina, who leads Amnesty International in Russia, criticized the move.

She said the law breaks international rules and Russia’s own Constitution, which bans discrimination and ensures free education for all. Zviagina called the law a clear example 2 of deep-rooted xenophobia.

She asked the upper house of Parliament to stop the law from being approved, saying it would leave many children isolated, take away their chance to learn, and damage their futures.

Zviagina stressed that every child, no matter where they’re from or their situation, should have the same right to education.
