A hacker linked to the Chinese government has broken into the US Treasury Department, gaining access to employee computers and non-secret files, according to US officials.
The attack happened in early December and was explained in a letter to lawmakers. The Treasury called it a “serious issue” and is collaborating with the FBI to understand the damage.
A spokesperson from the Chinese embassy denied the claims, calling them a “false attack” with no evidence.
